Now we really have no excuse to not read books in Maltese
Merlin eBooks probably classifies as one of the few good things that happened in 2020. It’s been long-established that I’m a bookworm, and will happily spend all available time either reading or eating. What I am not, however, is one of those puritans who will tell you that there’s no way they’re migrating to Kindle and that having a real book in their hands is irreplaceable.
I jumped on the ebook bandwagon immediately and with enthusiasm, for several reasons. Starting with space – although, I still buy the physical books, even if just to look at them and stroke the pretty covers, so maybe yeah I’m not as ‘modern’ as I like to think.
There’s also the ease of just being able to buy a book on the fly, without having to visit an actual store or wait for your online order to make it to your doorstep. That’s rather priceless. I mean, can you think of anything better than discovering a new and exciting book, and having access to it two minutes later? The only thing that would make it better is if it comes accompanied by a glass of perfectly chilled white, right?
The third reason is sheer comfort. I do quite a lot of reading in bed, before I go to sleep. And, quite frankly, it is much more comfortable to read and go through an e-reader than a physical book.
So there you go. Ebooks rule, and now we have Merlin ebooks to make the picture complete. This is a topic that I’d been chasing the ever-patient Chris Gruppetta (the man behind Merlin Publishers, and also my publisher incidentally) for I don’t know how long. So you can imagine my jubilation when the man himself informed me that all issues such as piracy had now been solved and that Merlin ebooks are, indeed, a thing.
Merlin Ebooks – Setting It Up
So, here’s all the info you need to get set up, straight from the horse’s mouth:
✅ There are currently 43 titles on the Merlin ebooks selection, which represents a good part of the publisher’s literary backlist. At the moment, much of the focus is on adult and YA titles, but an expansion to children’s literature and other titles is in the works.
✅ Merlin ebooks will work on any iOS or Android smartphone or tablet may be used to read our ebooks.
✅ Purchasing is an easy process – simply click ‘buy’ on the Merlin ebooks section of the website, and you will receive an email with the link to download the app. Download this once, and make sure you use the same email address for buying your Merlin ebook and setting up the app. All future purchases will then download automatically to the app.
And there you go – you’re sorted with new books with zero hassle. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting with a re-reading of Is-Sriep Reġgħu Saru Velenużi, which is in the process of being turned into a movie, so definitely worth a re-read before that happens!
