Like, for reals. Even Ashanti is now in love with Charles & Ron.
Earlier this month, Malta’s designer darlings Charles & Ron launched their latest fashion collection during New York Fashion Week. The show was part of the Art Hearts Fashion Week supported by Aids Health Care and was held at the Neo Gothic NYC landmark the Angel Orensanz Foundation.
By now everyone knows that Charles & Ron use everything that inspires and intrigues them in Malta and Gozo. This collection zooms in and out on several aspects of Maltese fashion, history and nature.
The inspiration for this collection started off from images of wild flowers that bloom in Malta’s country side in Spring time. Some of these beautiful flowers many times go unnoticed as they are tiny but when you zoom in you reveal the most beautiful shapes and colours. As our environment worldwide faces many challenges we have to do all we can to preserve these beautiful treasures.
Celebrating Malta’s history
Other historic treasures from the Neolithic period, like the figurines from the “Xaghra Circle” and the “Sleeping Lady” found at The Hal Saflieni Hypogeum are featured in graphic prints combined with aerial images of the Marsalforn Salt pans, turquoise sea water and a mixture of wild flowers; a rare white tipped version of the crown daisy ( Lellux), the more common Cape Sorrel flower ( Qarsu), the pale pink Slender Bindweed flower ( Leblieb tax- Xaghri-Car) , Gladiolus Communis ( Habb il-Qamh), Blue Stone Crop (Demm il-Madonna) and the Pimpernel flower ( Harira Hamra).
Charles & Ron used Silk Twill, Silk Tafeta , Corded Silk, Organza and Chiffon. Logo embroidered denim was used for some of the men’s designs. Tulle dresses are embellished with elaborate feather decoration and hand beaded flowers.
Yellow Lellux ,Poppy Red, Pink, Lilac, Biscay Green and Turquoise are the main colours for this collection which are set off against the staple C&R white and black .
The collection is paired with new leather bag styles in varies sizes and shapes, striped hand stitched leather patterns and new “croc effect “ leather are all part of this hand-crafted bag collection. The earrings for this season are made from laser cut leather letters. The leather belts, boots and shoes are also designed in house.
