Malta’s first dance flash mob?

It could have been a scene straight out of Glee as Valletta’s Republic Street suddenly came alive this morning with what is probably Malta’s first dance flash mob. Flash mobs – when a crowd of seemingly average passers by suddenly break into synchronized action (pillow fight, dance, zombie walk, whatever) – have become something of a pop culture hit. As far as I’m aware, the only other successful flash mob on our island happened last year when some fifty individuals got together to scare the shizzle out of St Julian’s residents with a very well planned zombie walk. The boys in blue were not particularly amused, I seem to remember.
Today’s flash mob was apparently held as part of the Ziguzajg children’s festival that is happening in Valletta right now. Rumor has it that another two flash mobs are likely to be held between today and tomorrow but – in true flash mob tradition- no exact details have been forthcoming. For info about Ziguzajg activities, check out www.ziguzajg.org
