New Blog Resolution

What better way to kick off a new blog than with a New Blog Resolution? I don’t usually do very well with resolutions and have a tendency to pretend that I made no such thing before the clock even strikes midnight on day one. But this is different I figure. This time round it’s there in black and white on the great interwebz. Rather difficult to get out of that, I suppose.
Before I reveal the grand New Blog Resolution, a bit of background. I just finished reading the third book in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Just this morning in fact. Now this is the childhood nerd (geek hadn’t been invented back then) who got punished by her physics teacher in secondary school not for skiving lessons. Oh no. My first afternoon school detention happened because I persisted in reading Anne Frank while Ms Wosserface attempted to explain the finer points of E=MC2 to the class. This is also the person who had read most of the old classics before starting post-secondary school. And who didn’t waste too much time before moving on to the modern ones. Bukowski, Murakami, Yoshimoto, Burgess…they’re all there in my have-reads.
Then something nasty happened to my bookshelves (I’m still resisting the Kindle). They discovered fangs. More specifically, I discovered True Blood on HBO, transferred my insane and unwise enthusiasm to printed matter and promptly started haunting (sorry) the more unsavoury sections of my local bookstore. Hence, the presence of eyebrow raisers like Anita Blake. And Sookie Stackhouse. And Spike graphic novels. No, hold on the latter are actually a good thing.
Cut a long story short, from this day onwards I’ll keep fangs to my DVD player. Any mention of a “heroine with preternatural powers” means that the book doesn’t get a new home with me. There, I’ve said it, my new blog resolution.
Never again will a book that mentions the V word darken my threshold.
Unless it’s Spike, of course.

I also stumbled into a Sookie Stackhouse addiction. Shameful, yes, but it happens to the best of us!
